The biggest crowd in Seattle history lined 4th Avenue from
Seattle Center to Century Link field to celebrate Seattle’s first major pro
sports championship in 35 years. The previous
large crowd was 300,000 people celebrating the Sonics NBA (basketball) championship
35 years ago.
Seattle has grown a lot in the last 35 years. Back then, there were no billionaires in the state. Now we have a dozen or more thanks to Microsoft,
McCaw Cellular and Amazon.
It was a cold sunny day with traffic jams lasting for hours with
supporters trying to leave Seattle during rush hour.
It is great that the Seahawks won the Superbowl and that so many people
had a chance to show their support for the Seahawks.
I am grateful that I did not have an appointment in Seattle today. I am also grateful we have reasonably well-mannered
fans that allowed this event to happen in a peaceful laidback Seattle way
instead of crazy destructive soccer hooligans.
