Waterfront views

Depending on how it is measured, Washington State has a coastline between 157 and 3,026 miles long per Wikipedia. 157 miles is ridiculously under measured since Google Earth shows that a straight line between the mouth of the Columbia river and the Washington/BC border at Semiahmoo bay is 198 miles. There is a coastline paradox that the finer the resolution of measurement, the longer the coastline gets much like the difference between measuring the coastline on a low-resolution map and walking the entire length of the shore.

Puget Sound has hundreds and hundreds of miles of coastline by any high-resolution measurement. This makes for some spectacular waterfront dining at scores of restaurants on the shores and adjacent hillsides. One of the best restaurant rows is in Tacoma on Ruston Way. Last night a friend and I went to dinner at the The Ram on Ruston Way. We were too late for waterfront seating since we had to sit in the bar. It was a beautiful drive on Ruston Way with intermittent views ranging from North Seattle to Des Moines to Browns Point and the Port of Tacoma on the east side of the Sound and Vashon Island on the west side.

There is something uniquely peaceful about being on an uncrowded shoreline unlike any other setting. I am grateful for the miles of beautiful coastline and spectacular views in Washington State.

  1. I'm just stopping by, as I do every week or so, to let you know that I'm reading and you are a good influence on me to keep noticing and being grateful for the small things that make life Good.
