Seattleites joke about summer starting the day after the 4th
of July—which frequently gets some rain.
Driving home on the evening of the 4th, there was 10 drops of
rain on my windshield causing me to exclaim “see, rain on the 4th of
July”. Normally the rain is more detectable
than a few drops of rain that evaporate in a minute. What actually happens is that by meteorological
standards it has rained on the 4th 32 times in the last 110 years
which is a consider higher standard than 10 drops of rain on my windshield while
going 60 mph on the freeway.
We are in the midst of a heat wave of ten days of 80°+ weather. Home Depot and Costco were both sold out of
portable air conditioning units this evening.
The average high for early July is in the mid-70s.
