Just started reading An Open
Heart: Practicing Compassion in Everyday Life by the Dalai Lama.
Compassion-sympathy
for the suffering of others and the desire to free them from it-is wrestled
with in all spiritual traditions. Yet how does one actually become a
compassionate person? What are the mechanisms by which a selfish heart is
transformed into a generous heart? In this acclaimed bestseller, His Holiness
the Dalai Lama writes simply and powerfully about the everyday Buddhist
practice of compassion, offering a clear, practical, inspiring introduction to
the Buddhist path to enlightenment.
The Dalai Lama is one of my favorite living world leaders. His teachings, courage, kindness and
intellectual curiosity are all off the charts.
I can’t think of another head of religion that meets regularly with
scientists to find and discuss common ground between their religion and
science.
I admire, respect and am grateful to the 14th Dalai Lama and
the difference he has made in our world.
He is a role model for all people, much less religious and political
leaders.
